DESIGN OPTIONS

Design options offer different strategies and solutions to achieve similar objectives of achieving a lively and safe urban space in the middle of the business district.

Option 1: This alternative would reduce the number of moving traffic lanes on Knutsford to one in each direction, plus turn lanes where necessary, and  expand  sidewalks  and landscaped areas

Option 2: This alternative would create a central square or plaza at the mid-point of Knutsford Boulevard (at the kink) with traffic flow around it.

Option 3: This alternative would eliminate the straight-through movement of traffic from one end of Knutsford Boulevard to the other. The street capacity of Knutson Boulevard would be reduced, as in Alternative No.1, and also redirected.

Option 4: This option explores the concept of a pedestrian superblock where the part of Knutsford from  Kink to Trafalgar Road is closed for traffic barring emergency access and converted into a fully pedestrian street.

SAFE AND GREEN CORRIDOR

Connect green spaces, public and private parks and other public spaces within and around New Kingston with a network of landscaped trails and sidewalks with enhanced security to encourage walking and reduce car dependence. This approach will increase pedestrian activity and help local businesses by generating increased foot traffic for retail stores

EQUITABLE STREETS

Smart mobility integrated with public transit, landscaped sidewalks and bike lanes can reduce traffic stress and create safer and pedestrian-friendly streets to enhance the public realm.

KNUTSFORD RE-DESIGN

Knutsford Blvd. redesign involves the use of urban design principles to create people-friendly spaces and a vibrant, safe and equitable environment
